Quietly sitting between Lubbock and Amarillo is the quaint little Texas Panhandle town of Happy. Referred to charmingly as “The Town Without a Frown,” Happy is home to a population of around 500-600 residents and is located in both Randall County and Swisher County. Occupying the zip code 79042, the town is served by the Happy Independent School District, containing only two schools; Happy Elementary School and Happy High School.
Since the town is less populous but rather close to a larger city, it is included as part of the Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area. While it is small, with not a lot for visitors to do and tourists to see, Happy has its own resting place, Happy Cemetary, as well as Happy City Hall, a United States Postal Service location, and several churches. Among these churches are First Baptist Church, Catholic Church, and Happy Methodist Church.
If you find yourself in the town and are looking for leather goods, you can head to Nortons Leather, located at 114 N Mabie Ave, Happy, TX 79042. This is a home-run business open 24 hours on weekdays, according to its Google Business Profile, so make sure to call ahead when looking to inquire about products from this store.
Happy City Park is a short drive down the main road to West Main St. On one side of the park stands a tall metal slide, two seesaws (i.e., teeter totters,) and what appears to be either a merry-go-round or some type of four-seated spring rider. These commodities are located west of the large metal gazebo in the middle of the park. The other side features a tetherball pole, flag pole, set of swings, an open field, and a playground on top of a cement slab.
